We had to think on our feet a bit this morning as we decided around about the time we reached GOMA that Norman Creek might be very muddy still from last week. Not wanting to risk it, we decided to go up to Tooheys Forest Park and have a bit of a look round there. We headed down Grey Street, left onto Lower River Terrace and accessed the SE Freeway bike path from there. We'd just gone past Tarragindi and were stopped having a drink when there was a definite air of not-being-fully-into-it from the group at large. Mutterings of "coffee shop" and "turn around" floated in and out of the conversation. Eventually we decided it would be a good compromise to turn around and head back via the Tarragindi Bikepath, stopping off at that park with all the fitness equipment. From there, Cracknell Road, Fairfield, The Corso, The Goat Track, Highgate Hill and home....
Well the park with all the gym gear in it (I think it might be called the Tarragindi Recreational Reserve) was hilarious and definitely worth revisiting. Here, for the benefit of those who couldn't make it, particularly Cate who could probably use a laugh, are some pics of us GOING HARD. Beefcake BEEFCAKE!!
What does this one do? Oooh its like a seesaw!... Celia here proving that she really does ROCK
Row Row Row yer boat! Bron puts her back into it.
Let's twist again! Michelle demonstrates the excellent flaring action of her skirt
The Butterfly Press: I'm opting for the relaxed, cross-legged approach.
Celia gives us her "knees up, mother brown" dance.
No bingo wings here.
Twisty thing: SO MUCH FUN!
Ahhh this is the life: cycling while lying down is SO relaxing...
Twisting and lifting...
You're not doing a close-up are you?? Aaaaa!! |
Celia looking ready.... for a nice cuppa! |
Same here. |
Bron takes on the pull-downs with appropriate aggression. |
After a while, like kids on Christmas night, we got bored with our toys.
So: we jumped back on our bikes, moods lifted immeasurably, and headed for the hills (quite literally).
As the morning sun blasted down on Cracknell Road, the plastic protective disc on Bron's back wheel that protects the cogs came loose and on closer inspection, we realised it had broke. Considering she only had it fitted on Wednesday, it was not good! Good mood gone.
Not the best angle of the offending disc but take my word for it - it was well and truly buggered.
Pissed off: West End's answer to Charlie's angels. Celia shows off the broken part while looking like she's going to smash someone's face in. Bron gives us her best ice-cold Terminator stare-down while Michelle goes for the sexy-pout-simmering-anger look. Don't mess with these girls. |
Well after this bombshell... AND realising the the bike shop in question didn't open for another hour or so, we decided to head back and just get the whole thing over with. Kudos to all. Particularly as after this, we encountered our 2nd aggressive MAMIL* of the morning shouting stuff like "MOVE MOVE GET OUT OF THE WAY MOVE OVER". I mean really - have some manners! Then we had the goat track and Highgate Hill to get up. It was a marathon morning but without the marathon distance and certainly not at a fast time. All up: 25kms. Total time: 2.5hours (including stoppage for route indecision, water breaks, playing in the park and bike frustration)
Whew. Tomorrow will be better.
*MAMIL: middle aged man in lycra
