Well the weather couldn't have been better as far as I was concerned. The air at 5.30am was mild and the sky was a clear powder blue: I was feeling cautiously optimistic, despite not giving way to Katina on the roundabout like I was sposed to.
Good news for those taking the riverside path is that the section on the way to the market that was mud yesterday has dried up (for now) and makes riding through there a lot less treacherous.
From there is was along to the Go Between, across and back along the Coro bike path to the Land Street tunnel. We took the cycle path along the roads, then to Toowong Roundabout. From there it is cycle path all the way along the Western Freeway to Centenary Bridge. There are some gentle inclines along the way to remind you it isn't a free ride but certainly nothing too dramatic requiring deep breaths and a mental pep talk. After the bridge, it's left into Pleasantville. Not sure what it's really called - possibly Jindalee possibly Seventeen Mile Rocks - but it really is pleasant. There are birds chirping, no roads, the river going past, friendly locals. With the sun filtering through the trees and the sound of the freeway dampening by the second, I could almost feel us all breathe out and go "oooh this is nice!".
We took a turn around the lake and parked up at the exact bench I had spotted on Google Earth where Katina handed out apples and muesli bars (gawd bless ya, love!).
Michelle being her smiley self: not a trace of yesterday's simmering menace (although if you check yesterday's mean pose, I reckon you can see a hint of a smile there!)
Ahhhh it was lovely. For those who are keen on the playground activities, there are a few pitstops along this peaceful section of the ride where we can mess about on rowing machines and sit-up benches. Next time!
So this ride gets two thumbs up from me. Katina is going to check out a possible return journey via Graceville so maybe next time we could try that for some variation.
So: next Saturday I would like to head up to Kedron Brook if anyone is keen. I've no idea what it will be like up there after last week but I'd like to have a look. I can't ride on Sunday morning but I've half a mind to do a small ride around 5pm on Sunday if anyone is keen???? Jacqui - Astrid is welcome to come and play with Mary if you don't have any plans.
Oh yes! Distance: 34.9kms Time: 1:52.
