It wasn't really the morning to be taking photos to tempt you on this ride being that it was overcast and threatening to rain at any minute.
However, the ride is a really good one. There is one busy main road where you have to get off your bike to cross it at the lights and there are also some quiet suburban roads but other than that, most of it is dedicated bike path. The path follows Ithaca Creek from Mount Coot-tha as it winds its way through Bardon and Ashgrove. We take in the sights of the Broncos training club...
as well as two bowls clubs. One right next door to the Broncos and one in Newmarket:
It's a picturesque little ride...
You pass a fair few houses that back onto the creek and I couldn't help wondering how they fared in the floods. I came across this marker for the '74 flood:
Further along the track were Marist College sports fields and Ashgrove sports fields where there were some rugby games going on the morning. Tally ho! The parents' coffee tent was smelly VERY good.
Eventually we pick up Enoggera Creek bike path and that takes us back to Bardon and on to Mt. Cootha so we go in a loop.
From the Simpsons Rd turn off, the route is about 17km and it took me 1hour and 10 mins. This was stopping every now and then to take photos and of course there was the ubiquitous wrong turns but really only one. Mostly it is very well signposted and I only had to check my directions a couple of times.
So. to sum it up: well worth doing. You get that big quarry hill workout and then the suburban streets which sort of go up and down (nothing too bad) and mostly flat bikeway means it's a ride with a bit of everything.
